AirAsia Cambodia Set to Take Off with Domestic Flights

Phnom Penh, March 19, 2024 – AirAsia Cambodia (flight code KT) has announced the launch of its domestic operations, connecting Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Sihanoukville. Beginning May 2, 2024, the airline will operate daily flights among these destinations using two A320 aircraft based at Phnom Penh International Airport, as revealed in a recent statement.

Prospective passengers can now book their flights for a travel period extending from May 2, 2024, to March 29, 2025. In a promotional gesture, the airline is offering 6,000 FREE seats, available through airasia.com and the AirAsia MOVE app, previously known as the ‘airasia Superapp’. Flight bookings can be made using a variety of payment options, including all major card schemes and KHQR, through a partnership with Oriental Bank’s payment gateway service, designed specifically for Cambodian customers.

AirAsia’s expansion into Cambodia is part of its broader network that connects over 130 destinations across Asia and beyond, including Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Australia, through its hubs in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Bangkok, Thailand.

Vissoth Nam, CEO of AirAsia Cambodia, expressed his enthusiasm about the airline's entry into the Cambodian market: “We're excited to begin this new chapter and look forward to making our mark in the Cambodian skies. As a truly local airline, our aim is to offer affordable travel options within the Kingdom, enhancing connectivity and encouraging longer stays among travelers.”

He further elaborated on the airline’s vision to revolutionize Cambodian air travel by offering competitive fares, excellent service, and strong connectivity, initially among these three key destinations.

Nam highlighted the strategic timing of AirAsia Cambodia’s introduction, given the significant growth in the country’s air travel and tourism sectors. “We are poised to significantly impact Cambodia’s aviation landscape, boosting the local economy through job creation and supporting the government’s goals for economic and tourism development,” he stated.

The launch of AirAsia Cambodia comes at a time when the nation welcomed over 5.4 million international visitors in 2023, marking an almost 140 percent increase from the previous year. Thailand, Vietnam, China, and Laos were among the top countries contributing to this surge, accounting for nearly 70 percent of total arrivals, according to the Ministry of Tourism.
